After a 30 year successful career as a licensed insurance agent and broker, John Andrew Kay entered the legal profession at age 57. He graduated from Touro Law Center with academic honors and additionally was awarded the Law Center’s coveted Michael Aaron Silver Award “For Promoting Tolerance & Harmony Among the Diverse Elements of the Law Center and its Community”.

John Andrew was elected as a Suffolk County District Court Judge in November 2010. In his time on the bench, Judge Kay presided over thousands of cases and numerous jury and bench trials, while gaining a reputation for his work ethic, in depth review of every case that came before him, as well as his down to earth and respectful approach to solving problems and working with others.

When Judge Kay reached the mandatory retirement age of 70 in 2014, he was appointed as a Judicial Hearing Officer (JHO) by both Suffolk County and the State of New York. In 2016, Judge Kay joined the Law Offices of Peter D. Baron, Of Counsel, and has, since that time, been a vital part of the law firm both working directly with clients as well as appearing in the Suffolk, Nassau and Metro New York Supreme Courts. He is also a member of the National Bar Association, the Christian Legal Society and the Amistad Long Island Black Bar Association.
